Man dies in a car crash in Co. Clare

Tragic news from Clare this evening.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána has confirmed that a man has died following a car crash on the R352 near the village of Mountshannon.

Gardaí were called out to the scene at approximately 2:45pm on Thursday (18 April).

It’s understood the car left the road and struck a ditch. No other car was involved in the collision. The driver, a man in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. The body has since been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick (UHL) for a post-mortem examination.

Another passenger in the car, who was also in his 60s, has been hospitalised, though Gardaí say his injuries aren't life-threatening.

Garda forensic collision investigators have been requested to examine the scene. The local coroner has been notified and local traffic diversions are in place around the crash site.

Gardaí are now looking for witnesses to the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact Ennis Garda Station 065-6848100 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
