Man dies, man and 10-year-old boy injured following two-vehicle collision in Cork

Very sad news.

An 80-year-old man has died following a road traffic collision in Cork on Thursday night.

Gardaí in Bantry are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the N71 at Bawnshanaclogh, Ballydehob at approximately 9.50pm.

The 80-year-old man was fatally injured and his 10-year-old male passenger was injured after the vehicle he was driving collided with another vehicle.

The driver of the second vehicle (a 42-year-old man) and the 10-year-old boy were taken to Cork University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries on Thursday night.

The body of the elderly man was removed to Cork University Hospital, where a post mortem will take place on Friday.

The road is currently closed and local diversions are in place. Garda Forensic Collision Investigators will conduct their investigations on Friday morning.
