Man dies, woman seriously injured following road collision in Cork

The collision occurred in Mayfield in Cork on Thursday morning.

A man in his late 70s has died and a woman in her late 70s has been seriously injured following a road collision in Cork on Thursday morning.

Gardaí are investigating a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the Ballyhooley Road at the junction with Gordon’s Hill in Mayfield at 8.15am.

A car struck a gate post and the female driver (late 70s) was removed to Cork University Hospital with serious injuries. The male passenger (late 70s) was fatally injured and his body remains at the scene.

The road is currently closed and local diversions are in place. Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are en route to the scene.
