Man dies in hospital following Monaghan assault

The man was assaulted in January and died yesterday.

Gardaí are investigating the death of a 36 year old man at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital on the June 2 2016.

Seamus Bell of Foxfield, Carrickmacross, who had been the victim of an alleged assault at Main Street, Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan on the 20th January 2018, was pronounced dead yesterday evening. According to a press statement from the Gardaí, Mr Bell had been in hospital since the assault earlier this year. Bell had been in a critical, non-responsive, comatose state following the attack.

According to the Garda statement, the office of the State Pathologist has been notified and Professor Cassidy will carry out a Post Mortem examination at 12pm on Sunday the 3rd June 2018.

A 34-year-old man by the name of Vytautas Racys of Lough na Glack, Carrickmacross, was arrested in January of this year in connection with the assault.

He is currently in custody in Cloverhill Prison charged with an offence under section 4 Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997 and is due to appear in Court in Cloverhill on the 21st June 2018.
