Man dies after getting into difficulty while fishing off Sligo coast

A man has died after getting into difficulty while fishing off the coast of Sligo.

The Coast Guard mobilised to mount a rescue attempt for the man in the early afternoon on Sunday September 9, but despite airlifting him from the scene, the man could not be saved.

A helicopter based at the Sligo Airport in Strandhill flew to the Dunmoran Strand area where the man had become stranded and lifted him aboard the helicopter and took him to Sligo University Hospital.

According to radio station Ocean FM, the deceased is believed to be 35 years old, and to originally have hailed from Poland. His name has not yet been made public.
