Man dies in Wexford after being struck by falling tree during Storm Eunice

Tragic news.

A man in his 60s has died after sustaining injuries from a falling tree in Wexford during Storm Eunice.

Emergency services attended the fatal incident on Friday morning (18 February) in the Ballythomas area.

A Garda spokesperson told JOE that it is understood that the man was injured as a result of a falling tree and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

RTÉ reports that the man was struck by the tree while out working to clear debris caused by the storm.

The body of the man is to be taken to Waterford University Hospital where a post-mortem will take place in due course.

Gardaí say the Health Safety Authority (HSA) has been notified and is due to attend the scene.

Status Yellow warnings remain in place for the entire country due to Storm Eunice.

One is a wind warning and is in effect until 6pm on Friday.

The other is a snow and ice warning and will be valid until 10am on Saturday.
