The man died of injuries to his neck and abdomen.

A man has been gored to death by a bull during a bull run in central Spain.

The incident occurred on Thursday during a festival in the town of Cuéllar.

The 62-year-old man received “several deadly horn blows” to the chest and neck, according to local mayor Carlos Fraile.

The victim was only a spectator at the festival but was rammed into a field and gored.

The man, who is from Cuéllar and has been identified only by his first name Angel, was taken from the scene but died shortly afterwards from wounds to his neck and abdomen.

Spain is famous for its bull runs and injuries are common, however, this is the first death at a bull run in 10 years.

Eight people were gored and 35 injured at the famed San Fermin festival in Pamplona last month.

The practice of bull running has come under increasing criticism in recent years, with PETA saying 48 bulls suffer a slow and painful death at Pamplona each year.

“Many bulls are paralysed but still conscious as their ears or tails are cut off as trophies,” according to the group.
