Man dies after an assault in Cork pub

The incident took place at around 11pm on Friday night.

Gardaí are investigating an assault incident that occurred at a pub in Mitchelstown Co. Cork on Friday June 1 at approximately 11pm.

A man in his  30s was pronounced dead at the scene. A press statement from the Gardaí notes that the man’s body is still at the scene. The State Pathologist’s office has been informed and the scene is currently preserved for technical examination.

A man in his 20s has been arrested and is currently detained at Fermoy Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Neither man has been publicly named.

An incident room has been set up at Fermoy Garda station and Gardai are appealing for witnesses to contact Fermoy Garda Station on 025 82100.

Neil Prendeville from Red FM has confirmed on Twitter that the assault took place in Willie Andies Pub in New Square, Mitchelstown.
