A British man has been shot dead by a hunter in the French Alps, according to reports.
The Independent has reported that a British restaurant-owner in his 30s was shot dead while riding a snowmobile on Saturday. The shooting occurred in "thick woods close to the ski resort of Montriond".
The hunter responsible is believed to be a man in his early 20s, and it has been reported that he was treated for shock. An investigation has now been opened into a case of a "aggravated manslaughter", and the hunter faces trial and prison if charged and found guilty.
Neither the deceased nor the hunter have been publicly named.
Accidental hunting deaths are not irregular in France, with 18 occurring in 2016.
