The burglaries took place on Sunday night in Ballyjamesduff.

Gardaí have arrested a man and woman in Cavan after two elderly people were robbed at gunpoint in their homes.

The aggravated burglaries took place on Sunday, 29 April, shortly after 7pm when two intruders forced entry into the home of a woman in her 70s.

Threatening her at gunpoint, the two made off with jewellery and cash, before entering a second house minutes later.

There they threatened the owner of said house, a man in his 90s, before fleeing with a sum of cash.

An alarm was raised, and during a follow-up operation, local Garda units intercepted a car in Virginia. The occupants of the car were a man in his 20s and a woman in her 30s.

They were subsequently arrested and brought to Baileboro Garda Station, where they are currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Neither of the victims were physically injured during the burglaries, but have since received medical treatment and assessment.

A technical and forensic examination of the scenes has been carried out, with Gardaí confirming that they were able to recover some of the stolen property.

Investigations are ongoing.
