Man and woman seriously injured following assault with hammer and golf club

The altercation involved a group of males at a house in Cork.

A man and woman have been seriously injured following an assault in Cork on Tuesday (30 August).

Shortly before 1am, Gardaí and emergency services received reports of an altercation involving a group of males at a house in Innishmore Square in Ballincollig.

A man in his 60s and a woman in her 30s were injured in the course of the incident and were taken from the scene by ambulance to Cork University Hospital.

Their injuries are understood to be serious but not life-threatening.

In a statement to JOE, a Garda spokesperson said a number of items were recovered outside the property including a golf club and hammer.

They also stated that an investigation into all of the circumstances of the incident is ongoing and that no arrests have been made at this time.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and those who were in the Innishmore Square area shorty before 1am on Tuesday morning to come forward.
