That’s $45billion, by the way.

Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan announced the birth of their baby daughter Max on Facebook (of course) this evening.

However, this was not the only big announcement the 30-year old multi-billionaire had in store for the world.

In what was styled as a letter to their daughter, Zuckerberg and Chan announced that they would be pumping 99% of their Facebook shares (currently worth about $45billion) the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.

The aim of the initiative is “advancing human potential and promoting equality”, by providing money for researchers who are studying how to prevent disease, those working at eliminating poverty and hunger, building “welcoming and inclusive communities” and “empowering underrepresented minorities.”

The statement can be read in full here, and we highly recommend that you give it a look.
