Massive gorse fire in Donegal being battled by fire services

Very serious.

A huge gorse fire is west Donegal is putting houses under threat and several firefighting units are trying to control it.

The fire is approaching woodlands and houses.

The main N56 road between Gaoth Dobhair and An Clochán Liath is closed and diversions are in place.

The public have been urged to take care when doing any activities that may cause fires, and to also report any unattended blazes that they see to emergency services.

A status orange forest fire danger warning was issued this week by the Department of Agriculture who said the danger for gorse and forest fires would peak on Monday 22 April.

It’s understood that locals and authorities in Anagaire are trying to save a number of properties close to the Caisleáin Óir Hotel.
