It was hotter in Mayo than it was in Tenerife this morning

If in Mayo or wherever you are today, you might as well get out and enjoy the sunshine because all signs are that it’s not going to last.

In fact, Met Éireann are predicting a fairly dramatic change in conditions starting from Tuesday night onwards, so there’s a very real possibility that today might be the hottest day we’ll have for the rest of the summer.

Temperatures are forecast to reach 26 degrees in places during the afternoon and the warm conditions made their mark early, with Belmullet in north Mayo registering a temperature of 22.1 degrees by 11am, a whole tenth of a degree warmer than it was in Puerto de Santiago in Tenerife.

Belmullet wasn’t the only place enjoying fine conditions on Tuesday morning, with Met Éireann detailing all of the weather stations that had reached 20 degrees before 10.30am.

The warm temperatures bring with them a need to take the necessary precautions, of course, so make sure to apply sun cream if you are out and about if you want to avoid having to deal with sunburn as well as miserable weather for the rest of the week.

Breezy conditions, showery rain and cooler temperatures are forecast to take effect from Wednesday onwards, with heavy and persistent rain threatened in the west of north of the country on Friday and heading into the weekend.

Summer 2017, we hardly knew ye.
