McDonald’s investigate after possible worm is found in a chip on Grafton Street

The fast food restaurant insist it was a 'potato defect'

McDonald’s deny that a picture shared widely on social media over the last few days shows a worm in one of their chips from the Grafton Street branch.

However, they are investigating what this is.

ChipWorm

JOE contacted McDonald’s on Monday morning to find out whether the chip pictured above – shared on Facebook and reproduced, with the permission of the uploader, by the Daily Edge – was indeed playing host to a worm.

They told us that the chip in question was being tested, and that “It’s not fair to say that it’s a worm.”

They then issued the following statement.

“McDonald’s Ireland has been contacted by a customer regarding an apparent potato defect in a serving of fries in our Grafton Street Restaurant. The matter is now being looked into. McDonald’s Ireland sources real, whole potato fries from our longstanding supplier McCain’s in the UK.

“McDonald’s is committed to delivering the highest food safety standards in our restaurants and as such, we welcome feedback from our valued customers.”
