weather in Ireland this week

Bad news on the weather front this week.

Met Éireann has issued a status yellow thunderstorm warning for the entire country from 6am on Thursday until 10pm.

The warning was set to be in effect from 6am until 7pm on Thursday across all counties in Ireland and Northern Ireland with a risk of thundery spells of rain, lightning and local hail throughout the day. However, it has since been extended until 10pm.

The forecaster is also urging people to be cautious as there may be localised flooding.

As indicated by the warning, the weather for the rest of the week is set to be fairly unsettled, with widespread heavy or thundery showers and a continued risk of spot flooding.

Conditions are to remain blustery throughout Friday with widespread heavy showers and thunderstorms following behind the rain, bringing the risk of hail and spot flooding. Highest temperatures will reach 17 to 21 degrees generally.

Tomorrow will once again bring thundery showers or longer spells of rain over the northern half of the country with the continued risk of spot flooding.

Meanwhile, the showers will be more isolated over Munster and south Leinster for most of the day with some bright spells and highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees.

Saturday is also set to be a breezy day with widespread showers once again and isolated thunderstorms bringing the risk of spot flooding. Highest temperatures will reach between 16 to 19 degrees.

Sunday will see showery conditions continue with thunderstorms possible. The showers will be heaviest and most frequent over the northern half of the country.

Temperatures will be between 15 to 19 degrees.

There will be a mix of sunny spells and showers on Monday with rain, however, it will be less heavy than previous days with temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees.

Tuesday will once again be drier than previous days, however, cloud will bubble up through the day with a few isolated showers developing. Highest temperatures will be between 18 and 21 degrees.

Current indications suggest that the generally unsettled conditions will continue with spells of wet and sometimes windy weather possible throughout the rest of the week with daytime temperatures generally ranging between 17 and 21 degrees.
