Met Éireann issue nationwide weather warning

Try not to get blown away.

Met Éireann has issued two fresh Status Yellow wind warnings which, together, encompass the entire island.

The first is set to affect Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare and Kerry. Met Éireann warns: “This evening and overnight, very strong north to northwest winds will reach mean speeds of 60 to 65 km/hr with gusts of 100 to 110 km/hr. Wind speeds may exceed these values at times in exposed coastal areas. There will also be very high seas.”

This warning will come into effect at 7pm this evening (26 January) and will last until 7am tomorrow morning.

High wind speeds with also affect the rest of the country, with a second warning issued for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Roscommon, Cork, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford.

Unlike the first warning, this one comes into effect at 8pm this evening, and will elapse at 9am tomorrow morning. Gusts of 100 km/hr are expected to hit these counties.

A gale warning has also been issued off the coast of Ireland today. Met Éireann reports: “Southwest gales today on Irish coastal waters from Mizen Head to Slyne Head to Fair Head. Northwest gales or strong gales tonight on all Irish coastal waters and on the Irish Sea.”
