The snow is coming.

Having said that snow will fall mainly in Connacht, Ulster and on high ground this week, Met Éireann has now issued a Status Yellow snow-ice warning for the entire country.

The warning is valid from Tuesday, 29 January at 6am and will remain in effect until Saturday, 2 February at 6pm.

The warning was issued at 9am on Monday morning and applies to the whole country.

The warning states that it will be very cold this week, with scattered wintry showers, which will be frequent across the southwest, west and north.

Some accumulations of snow are expected, while there will be widespread frost at night with icy stretches on untreated surfaces. There is the possibility of a more significant spell of sleet/snow on Thursday.

While the warning applies to the Republic of Ireland, as of Monday morning, the UK Met Office has not issued any warning pertinent to the six counties in Northern Ireland.
