Met Eireann have issued a weather warning for 20 counties on Wednesday.

A status yellow rain warning was issued for Munster, Leinster, Cavan and Monaghan.

The warning was issued on Wednesday morning at 7am and is active from 7am on Wednesday until 3am on Thursday morning.

Met Eireann have warned of heavy rain on Wednesday that will continue in the east for a time tonight, with totals of 25 to 35 mm possible.

There will be heavy rain across the southwest of Munster on Wednesday but this will gradaully extend northwards during the day before finally clearing later this evening. Highest temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees in moderate southerly breezes.

Thursday will be bright and fresh with some heavy passing showers but also with a good deal of dry and sunny weather throughout the day.

But after Thursday is where things will start to change as it looks to be far more unsettled.

Thursday night will begin dry but rain will extend gradually from the Atlantic, turning heavy in parts of the west and southwest. Winds will pick up and fresh to strong southerly winds will develop.

Friday will begin wet and misty in the morning but many areas will become dry during the day, with a few bright spells in parts of the east, but there will be further patches of rain and drizzle in places, mainly along western and southern coasts.
