Definitely a night to break out the hot water bottles.
As we reported earlier, Met Éireann has forecast that tonight’s weather will be exceptionally cold:
”Dry, clear and very cold tonight with lowest air temperatures generally -2 to -5 degrees with a widespread sharp to severe air and ground frost. Some patches of freezing fog also. Perhaps temperatures staying slightly above zero along the east coast due to an onshore northeasterly wind.”
However, an updated yellow-status weather warning is in effect right now until midday on Sunday, and the warning covers the following counties:
- Cavan
- Clare
- Cork
- Donegal
- Galway
- Kerry
- Leitrim
- Limerick
- Mayo
- Monaghan
- Roscommon
- Sligo
- Tipperary
- Waterford
Very cold tonight with a widespread frost and minimum temperatures -2 to -5°C. A little milder along the east coast in an onshore NE breeze.
A Low Temperature warning is in place tonight for Munster, Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal. pic.twitter.com/wUIcrLEwoE— Met Éireann (@MetEireann) January 6, 2018
