Met Éireann has issued a snow and ice warning for the entire country

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow snow and ice warning for the entire country.

The warning was issued on Sunday at 4pm and is valid from 12am on Monday until 8am on Monday morning.

Met Éireann has said showers will affect the western half of the country overnight and will increasingly fall as sleet, or possibly snow in a few places.

With minimum air temperatures near zero or below countrywide, some icy stretches are likely by morning.

It will be cold with widespread frost and icy patches in overnight lows of 0 to -2 degrees but a few degrees higher on Atlantic coasts.

The Met Office has also issued a similar warning for Northern Ireland which is valid from midnight until 10am on Monday morning.

Monday will be a cold day with widespread frost and icy patches clearing during the morning.

While it will be a bright day, there’s a chance of some thundery and wintry showers in the afternoon and evening with highest temperatures of 5 to 7 degrees.
