Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange weather warning for Galway and Mayo

Met Éireann has upgraded its wind warning in Galway and Mayo to a Status Orange warning.

The warning is in effect from 9pm on Wednesday evening until 1am on Thursday morning.

The weather service has warned of strong southerly winds which will bring gusts of up to 120 km/h for a short time.

A Status Orange wind warning for Cork will expire at 9pm on Wednesday evening.

For the rest of the country, a Status Yellow wind warning remains in effect until 3am on Thursday morning.

Met Éireann has warned of southeast winds, later veering southerly bringing with it gusts 90-110km/h with winds peaking tonight.
