The update warns of a risk of spot flooding in Kilkenny, Wexford, Clare, Limerick and Tipperary as 25-30mm of rain is expected to fall this evening, tonight and into Friday.

It also says that 30 to 50 mm of rain is expected this evening, overnight and for a time on Friday with the risk of spot flooding in Cork, Kerry and Waterford.

The heavy and persistent rain will break up into showers by the afternoon on Friday, with the showers becoming confined to west and northwest later.

It will be cooler at night though with a touch of grass frost and showers becoming confined to mainly Atlantic coastal counties.
