“I’m dreaming of a wet Christmas” as Bing Crosby never sang.
It looks like the heavy showers and dangers of flooding that the country has experienced over the past few days are set to continue for the foreseeable future, as Met Éireann have this morning issued an Orange Warning.
According to the Met Éireann website, this new status update means that weather condidtions will be “very wet and extremely windy today as gale force southerly winds develop with gusts of 100 to 120km/h. Some flooding likely also especially in coastal areas due to heavy rain and high seas.”
“The rain that’s coming with the system is actually very heavy, so we could get spot flooding anywhere,” said Met Éireann forecaster Joan Blackburn.
“There’s an enhanced risk in the coastal counties … particularly so at high tide, but really at any stage during the day.”
With today marking the final day of work before the festive fun of next week, please be careful out on the roads when you’re, to paraphrase another Christmas classic, driving/bussing/travelling/hitching home for Christmas.
You can check out a five-day-forecast over on Met.ie.
