snow ice warning

It’s a year on from the Beast from the East, and thankfully we won’t be hit with anything like that.

Met Éireann has said that there is a possibility that Ireland will get some sleet and snow showers on Sunday.

There is currently a Status Yellow rainfall warning in place which affects Munster and Leinster and is in place until 6pm on Sunday evening.

Met Éireann has said that rain in southern counties will spread northwards to most areas by Sunday afternoon. These showers will turn heavy in parts of Munster and Leinster and there will also be a risk of spot flooding.

The meteorological service also said the rain will turn to sleet and snow in places as the day goes on with the winds becoming northeasterly in direction causing temperatures to drop to between 1 and 5 degrees.

However, it’s expected that only higher ground will be hit with significant accumulations of snow.

The last of the rain, sleet and snow will clear into the Irish Sea on Sunday night with strong northwesterly winds developing near the south coast and over parts of Leinster for a time.
