Haven’t we suffered enough?

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow rain warning for Leinster, Munster and Galway for Friday (18 August).

The national forecaster has warned that the potential impacts of the rain are spot flooding and difficult travelling conditions.

The alert will take effect from 4pm until midnight on Friday.

Met Éireann’s national forecast for Friday as a whole is as follows:

“A very wet, cloudy and blustery start as bands of rain move north across the country from early morning. The rain will be followed by showers, some heavy with the chance of spot flooding too. Staying mild and rather humid with highs of 17 to 21 degrees in a blustery southerly wind.

Friday Night: Staying rather cloudy and wet with widespread showers, some turning heavy at times too. The showers will gradually begin to ease with clear and perhaps dry spells developing in the south as brisk southeast winds turn westerly overnight. Lowest temperatures of 14 to 16 degrees.”

National Outlook for the rest of the week

The forecaster also said in their national outlook that today, Wednesday 16, will remain largely dry with a mix of cloud and bright or sunny spells. A few showers will break out, but much of the country will stay dry. Highest temperatures of 18 to 21 degrees in light winds.

The night will remain generally dry but there will be some scattered cloud with just a few isolated showers lingering in the west and northwest too. Staying dry and rather calm elsewhere with some mist and fog patches forming overnight. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees in light winds.

Thursday is set for good spells of sunshine with the afternoon bringing a mix of cloud and sunny spells along with the odd shower. However, thicker cloud is set to move in across the southwest with patchy rain developing.

Saturday will see a good mix of sunshine and showers. Some of the showers will be more persistent in the west where moderate southwest winds will increase fresh at times. Highest temperatures of 18 to 21 degrees.

Current indications are that Sunday will be another mix of scattered showers and sunny spells with the best chance of dry weather in the east of the county. The southwesterly breeze will persist with highest temperatures of 18 to 21 degrees.
