Sadly this one isn’t an April Fools prank.

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow weather warning for heavy rainfall on Easter Sunday.

The national weather forecaster warns that heavy rainfall will occur near the coast in counties Wexford, Wicklow, Cork and Waterford, with expected levels being between 25 and 40mm.

The warning, which was posted to its website is valid from Sunday, 1 April 6pm until Monday, 2 April at 12am.

Meanwhile, the weather advisory for Ireland has predicted heavy rain and strong easterly winds that “will become widespread on Sunday evening and night, continuing into Monday morning.”

“The rain turning increasingly to sleet as it spreads north with some snow on hills, and possibly at lower levels also in northern parts.”

It is also expected that further rain, sleet and hill snow will be present for a significant period on Monday in the far north. Elsewhere, weather will turn less cold with rain gradually giving way to showers.

This, the forecaster says will remain valid from Sunday, 1 April at 6.01pm until Monday, 2 April at 6pm.
