Wrap up warm, for it’s going to be a cold one tonight.

Following Wednesday afternoon’s status yellow rainfall warning for eight counties comes a new status yellow warning with low temperatures forecast for the whole country.

Temperatures will fall to -3 or -4 degrees on Wednesday night in many areas nationwide.

The warning, issued late Wednesday afternoon, is valid from 9pm on Wednesday evening until 9am on Thursday 5 April.

Elsewhere, in the 24-hour period from Thursday afternoon to Friday afternoon, further rainfall is likely to lead to between 30 and 50 mm of rain in many areas with a risk of flooding.

That warning, for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford, is valid from Thursday, 5 April 2018 at 2pm to Friday, 6 April at 2pm.

In brighter news, this weekend sees the temperatures take a drastic turn for the better as temperatures of between 12°C – 15°C are expected.
