Met Eireann warn of heavy showers and gale force winds for the rest of the bank holiday

Weather warning

Ugh…

It’s the bank holiday weekend, which probably means that you’ve got a lot of plans for the day.

You might be attending Forbidden Fruit. You may be heading out for a long walk with your family. You could even be hitting up the pub with your mates and basking in that one glimmer of sunlight before it disappears behind a cloud forever.

Whatever your plans, do make sure that you batten down the hatches (and also bring some sort of rain deflecting device such as a coat or hat), because Met Eireann has warned of heavy showers and gale force winds for the rest of the weekend.

“Heavier and more prolonged showers will become widespread across Connacht this afternoon and later in west Ulster, with just a few scattered showers elsewhere,” the forecast reads.

It’ll also become very windy in Atlantic coastal areas, with strong gale force southerly winds veering towards the southwest of the country.

Temperatures will hit highs of 19 degrees but there will be strong winds happening over night into Monday with further showers, most of them in Connacht, west Ulster and west Munster. It’ll be “mainly dry elsewhere” with Monday bringing some bright and sunny spells with scattered showers through the day.

The good news is that if you are attending Forbidden Fruit or simply happen to be hanging out in the east of the country, the weather isn’t supposed to be that bad.

Temperatures will reach as high as 19 degrees with scattered showers throughout the day and night. It’ll be mainly dry leading up to the evening time but then the rain will resume on Monday, widespread and heavy.

Hey, at least it’ll be hot.
