Batten down the hatches.
In a week where Met Éireann issued
their latest storm names, it's oddly fitting that they've also officially stated that Ireland is set to experience the effects of (ex-)tropical storm Storm Helene.
Helene was just one of the
three recent hurricanes that developed in the Atlantic and after Met Éireann previously warned that 'very disturbed weather' is en route to Ireland, they've provided some new information.
"Current indications are that (ex-)tropical storm Helene will approach Ireland's south coast Monday night or Tuesday. It is likely to bring wet and windy weather, but at the moment there are no strong indications that it will bring any severe or damaging weather," reads the forecast
on the Met Éireann website.
As for the the immediate weather that's expected over the weekend, Friday is set to start with a long period of showery rain, heavy in places, but less showery away from northern coasts this afternoon and evening.
A few bright or short sunny spells will develop throughout the afternoon.
As for Friday evening, these showers will remain in certain parts of the country, mainly in northern and northwestern areas, but they'll become more scattered later. Elsewhere should be mainly dry.
Saturday will start mainly dry, with just isolated showers. There will be some bright spells in parts of east Munster and Leinster, with a little hazy sunshine, but cloudy generally. Persistent rain will develop along the Atlantic seaboard later in the morning and this will extend through Connacht and Ulster in the afternoon and evening.
It's expected to be largely dry elsewhere although it will become windy, with strong and gusty southerly winds developing.
Saturday night will see wind and outbreaks of rain in all areas, heavy and persistent at times.
Looking ahead to Sunday morning and the rain will clear southeastwards. Winds should ease off also with brighter weather conditions expected.
In the southeast, the rain may linger until late afternoon though. Sunday night should be mainly dry though.
Reputable weather source Carlow Weather are also warning the public ahead of Storm Helene's arrival.
