Met Éireann has said Ireland will face very unsettled conditions on Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning, with heavy rain leading to a risk of flooding and the potential for some very strong winds with damaging gusts. A Status Yellow wind warning has already been issued for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford and will come into effect at 9pm on Tuesday. The weather will be influenced by two low pressure systems which will track across Ireland on Tuesday while a southerly component of the Polar Jetstream will strengthen over Ireland throughout the day. This has the potential to steer low pressure systems towards Ireland and intensify them. Heavy rain is set to move into the southwest on Tuesday evening but will extend across the country during the night. While the rain is expected to clear from most areas on Wednesday morning, the west of the country could see further heavy rain throughout the morning. The rain will be heavy but will pass quickly, however due to soils being saturated or waterlogged there will be a risk of flooding, particularly in the west. Rivers are already elevated in the western half of the country, and multiple separate spells of rain will increase the flood risk. Met Éireann also said the combination of high sprint tides and unsettled, potentially stormy conditions on Tuesday and Wednesday mean there will be an increased risk of coastal flooding, especially in flood-prone areas. The outlook for the rest of the week remains unsettled with showers and longer spells of rain at times. Temperatures will be milder than usual for this time of year due to mostly southerly winds.
