Met Éireann upgrades weather warning to status orange in 13 counties for Storm Ali

It’s getting serious…

Met Éireann has issued a status orange wind warning that will affect 13 counties.

The warning affects Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Meath, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare and Kerry.

The warning was issued at 9am on Tuesday and is active from 5am on Wednesday until 1pm on the same afternoon.

Met Éireann said that Storm Ali will track close to the west and northwest coast from the early hours of Wednesday morning until late afternoon.

There will be south to southwest winds veering westerly and will increase to mean speeds between 65 and 80 km/h with gusts between 110 and 120 km/h for a time in some areas.

Winds will be strongest on Atlantic coasts first before spreading eastwards in the afternoon.

The rest of the country will remain under a status yellow wind warning for now.

This warning was issued at 9pm on Monday and is also active from 5am on Wednesday until 1pm in the afternoon.

In the yellow areas affected, winds will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65 km/hr with gusts of 90 to 110 km/hr.
