Michael O’Leary says sorry after ‘sex with the Queen’ joke

The Ryanair boss dropped the funny at a recent gathering of British and Irish politicians in Dublin, but he quickly apologised after one MP took offence.

This morning’s Irish Independent has a great story about a Michael O’Leary gag that didn’t go so well. Addressing the British-Irish Parliamentary Assembly yesterday, O’Leary tried to lighten the mood with a joke.

Here it is, as quoted in the Indo: ‘It is a great pleasure to be here and in such august company. Addressing such an august body as this reminds me much of making love to the Queen of England – you know it is a great honour, you’re just not sure how much pleasure it is going to be.’

We liked it, but after O’Leary finished his presentation to the group, British MP Andrew Rosindell asked O’Leary to apologise for his joke, saying it was ‘inappropriate’.

O’Leary backed down, apologising and saying: ‘I didn’t mean to convey any discourtesy and I apologise if I did.’

Tough crowd Michael, tough crowd.
