If you’re heading outdoors, prepare for all eventualities.
This time last year, Ireland was in the middle of a very unfamiliar heatwave as temperatures soared towards 30 degrees, but it’s going to be a little different for the June Bank Holiday weekend this time around.
The weather, which, in football parlance, has been solid if not spectacular in recent weeks, began to take a turn this week with status yellow rainfall warnings issued for a number of counties and it looks as if there’s not going to be a dramatic turnaround for the coming three-day weekend.
Friday, according to the latest Met Éireann forecast, will be mild, humid and mostly cloudy with rain in the morning in west Munster, Connacht, Ulster and north Leinster. The south of the country will stay mainly dry, while temperatures will reach as high as 21 degrees.
Saturday is expected to get off to a good start and will be dry in most areas, but rain and drizzle will develop in Munster and Leinster in the afternoon and become widespread by Saturday evening, with temperatures reaching no higher than 19 degrees.
The rain is expected to be persistent in the west come Saturday night and will be heavy for a time, especially in the north west of the country.
Sunday morning will again get off to a more pleasant start, with plenty of sunshine mixed in with occasional showers, which will be more prevalent in Ulster and Connacht and will turn heavy at times.
Sunday will be cooler thanks to some gusty westerly winds and temperatures will drop to between 14 and 18 degrees, dropping to below 10 degrees later in the evening when most of the country will enjoy dry and clear spells.
Monday, meanwhile, will be cool and bright with scattered showers and temperatures hovering around the mid-teens.
