Promising news.

Unions at Bus Eireann have suspended their planned strike next Monday in order to facilitate talks aimed at ending the ongoing dispute.

The decision was made following meetings with the Workplace Relations Commission today where it was confirmed that management at Bus Eireann would not implement pays cuts and conditions that were due to be enforced on Monday without agreement.

Unions and management at Bus Eireann have agreed to undergo three days of intensive talks beginning this Friday in a bid to find a resolution.

According to RTE, SIPTU have said the strike action is merely suspended due to the talks taking place on Friday, Monday and Tuesday.

Unions are not happy with Bus Eireann’s plans to introduce cuts next week as the company tries to implement a €30 million cost-cutting plan in a bid to avoid going out of business.

The company suffered €9 million in losses last year.
