Motion of the Ocean: Terrifying on-board footage of Irish ship being battered by stormy seas

Have your seasick bag at the ready...

Eoghan Doherty

We know lobster is delicious but this madness man, sheer madness…

The country has been absolutely battered and bruised in recent weeks and we’ve certainly all borne witness to some very destructive winds and floods, but this latest clip really takes the (sea)biscuit.

Move over Seasick Steve, there’s a new, well, Seasick Steve in town (who doesn’t actually get seasick).

Proud Irishman, seaman and Redditor Steve Golden was at work on the ocean earlier this month when he recorded this incredible and frankly terrifying footage of gigantic waves off the South coast of the country. The vessel, which is 62 metres long and weighs 1500 tonnes, was tossed around in huge “lumps of sea” which were around 17 metres in height, while winds of up to 100 mph blew all around them.

This fantastic footage certainly isn’t for those of you who are prone to getting seasick, but it’s certainly worth watching the entire way through as whopping waves, to this landlubber’s eyes at least, threaten to engulf the boat. Accompanied by the lonely repeated squeak of his heroic single window wiper, listen out for Steve’s “Bloody hell” at around the 4.21 mark, perfectly executed in the style of a grizzled, growling ship Captain.

Have your seasick bags at the ready because this is some ship-scary stuff…

And here is the seaman in question, thankfully still safe and sound after his latest adventure out to sea. Fair play Steve
