Murder investigation begins after Irish man found dead in Malaysia

Terrible news from Malaysia.

According to a report by Malaysian newspaper The Star, an information technology manager from Ireland was found murdered in an apartment building in Penang.

The man was named in the report as Brian Patrick O’Reilly.

The report also claims that a strange note was found near the deceased man, reading: “I respected the Police & Still Do But Justice Sometimes has to be Gained. I Hate you Mafia Kiling Scamers [sic], I Love My Girl.” Police have said they are looking for the author of the note.

Police officer Che Zaimani Che Awang claimed that he believed that the Irish man was attacked with a frying pot and pan, as well as stabbed.

Another Malaysian newspaper, The Straits Times, has reported that two people have been detained in connection with the incident, one man and one woman. The incident is officially being investigated as a murder case.

Penang police chief Comm Datuk T. Narenasagaran also said: “We are now looking for a fair-skinned foreign man who we believe could be key in our investigation.”

Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs have said that they are “aware of the situation and are providing consular assistance”.
