Netflix say that the facts around the death are still unknown.

37-year-old Carlos Munoz was a location manager for the drug drama epic Narcos, reportedly seeking out new locations for the show’s fourth season which was moving the action from Colombia to Mexico.

Munoz had previously scouted locations for other productions within Mexico such as the Denzel Washington action film Man On Fire, Mel Gibson’s primal thriller Apocaltypo and the most recent James Bond movie Spectre.

Local news outlet El Pais reported that Munoz had been found dead in a vehicle that had received multiple gunshots, in a rural area just outside of Mexico City.

A friend of Munoz reportedly told the outlet the presence of an unfamiliar person in the area with a camera may have led to his death, as the area Munoz was scouting is well known for drugs-related homicides:

“Maybe they thought he was collecting information and they started tracking him in a car.”

Netflix released a short statement on the incident (via Deadline):

“We are aware of the passing of Carlos Munoz Portal, a well-respected scout, and send our condolences to his family. The facts surrounding his death are still unknown as authorities continue to investigate.”
