The National Lottery has launched new changes to its existing Lotto Plus game, which will see the top prize increase from €500,000 to €1 million, in excess of 50% more winners and the creation of an average of 16 millionaires in Ireland every year.
Launched on Thursday, the changes to the Lotto Plus game will mean that the chances of winning a prize across Lotto with Lotto Plus will jump from one in 17 to one in 10.
The average number of prizes won on a Saturday across Lotto and Lotto Plus will increase from approximately 66,000 to over 100,000 and there will be three new ways to win cash prizes. The Lotto Plus game allows players enter into three draws – Lotto Plus 1, Lotto Plus 2 and a Lotto Plus raffle.
The main changes to the Lotto Plus game are outlined below:
- Top prize in Lotto Plus 1 doubles from €500,000 to €1 million
- More than 50% more winners in Lotto and Lotto Plus
- An average of 16 millionaires a year across Lotto and Lotto Plus
- Lotto with Lotto Plus win odds improve from one in 17 to one in 10
- Lotto Plus raffle prize increases from €300 to €500
- Three new ways to win in Lotto Plus
- Special draws with prizes worth €1 million
As flagged recently, the price of a Lotto Plus line will rise by 50 cent to €1 to facilitate the prize increases, but there will be no change in the cost of playing the main Lotto game.
The changes kick in for the Lotto Draw this Saturday, 1 September and the new tickets are on sale at retailers all over Ireland from Thursday, 30 August. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.lottery.ie or through the National Lottery App.
The game changes are also expected to result in an estimated additional €5.5 million being raised for Good Causes every year.

With the new game over 80% of sales will be returned in the form of prizes to players and to good causes which benefit the whole community in Ireland.”
