New study names Dublin as one of the most LGBTQ+ accepting cities in the world

Stephen Porzio

The capital’s much-loved LGBTQ+ bars and clubs helped it score highly.

Dublin has been named the fifth most LGBTQ+ accepting city in the world in a new study.

Conducted by Money.co.uk, the cities were ranked using a worldwide indicator sourced from Social Progress on the level of acceptance in each country.

Other factors considered included the number of dedicated LGBTQ+ bars and clubs per 100,000 people and the average rating of these bars and clubs on TripAdvisor.

Going by these metrics, the capital of Ireland scored 9.1/10 for its acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community, with the city being described as a “great place to move or travel to as a member of this community if you want to feel welcomed and free to be yourself”.

Though Dublin was found to only have 0.2. LGBTQ+ bars and clubs per 100,000 people, Money.co.uk said the ones that do exist score a high average of 4.3 on TripAdvisor.

“So chances are, no matter which of the three total bars you visit, it will be a good night,” it stated.

Meanwhile, in the top spot was Reykjavik in Iceland which contains 2.5 LGBTQ+ dedicated bars and clubs per 100,000 people.

Rounding out the top five were Dutch cities Amsterdam and Rotterdam in second and third place, followed by San Francisco.

Also, in the top 10 were Brussells, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Glasgow and Madrid.
