Newstalk has announced that Ciara Kelly will take the reins of a new lunchtime show on the station’s weekday schedule. ‘Lunchtime Live’ will see Kelly bring a fresh perspective to midday radio examining the key issues of the day and how they affect the lives of the listeners.

This comes after George Hook was suspended from his role at Newstalk over comments he made about a UK rape case.

According to the station, Kelly will go behind the days’ headlines and talking points, from current affairs and politics to lifestyle and human interest. Central to the show will be listener interaction with callers to air, texts and social media engagement, letting listeners have their say on the big issues of the day.

Speaking about the new show, Ciara Kelly said: “I’m very excited to be presenting Lunchtime Live on Newstalk. It’s going to be great to front a show that has real interaction with listeners, where we get stuck into issues people are talking about in their daily lives. I am lucky to have a brilliant, dynamic team behind me and we want to make fearless, fresh and compelling radio.”

Adrian Serle, Group CEO of Communicorp is delighted that Kelly will be presenting the new show on Newstalk’s primetime schedule.

“Ciara already has a strong relationship with the station and resonates well with our listeners, so we are looking forward to developing that relationship with us and our listeners through ‘Lunchtime Live’. Ciara is a great broadcasting talent, a straight talker and will add a great dynamic to our already strong schedule,” he said.

‘Lunchtime Live’ with Ciara Kelly will being on Monday 23 October and will be on air from 12 to 2pm Monday to Friday.
