Norwegian Air made the announcement late on Tuesday night.

The budget airline have made the changes to the Cork-Boston route less than a year after the airport’s first transatlantic service was launched in July 2017.

It was planned that the airline would add a second transatlantic service, flying from Cork to New York, but while there has been no confirmation as to status of that new service, the Cork-Boston route will be suspended as of Winter 2018, and will be picked up again heading into Summer 2019.

In a statement released by Cork Airport, Norwegian Air has confirmed that it plans to operate a Summer only service to Boston Providence next year. The service will operate from March to the end of October following a commercial review of its entire network.

Following a comprehensive review of their services, Norwegian has decided to suspend some routes during the quieter Winter season due to lower demand, including a number to Boston, Providence from Cork, Shannon, Belfast and Edinburgh.

According to the airport. advance bookings for Summer 2018 are very strong, as the route is proving very popular in both directions for US customers to the south of Ireland as well as those heading to the east coast of the USA.
