A number of security alerts have been issued around Derry following discovery of suspicious device

There are reports of a controlled explosion of a device left outside a politician’s home.

A 39-year-old man has been arrested following a series of security alerts around Derry on Sunday morning.

The Belfast Telegraph reports that a suspected device left outside the home of councillor Gary Donnelly in Creggan in Derry.

PSNI have since carried out a controlled explosion on the device.

There are also a number of road closures still in place around the city.

A number of homes in the area have been evacuated and local diversions are in place.

RTE News state that the man has been taken to the Serious Crime Suite at Musgrave Police Station in Belfast for questioning.

The PSNI have said no further details are available at present.

The security operation is ongoing.
