President Barack Obama has sent out an invitation to 14-year-old Ahmed Mohamed to visit the White House, after he was arrested for building a clock.

Ahmed brought a clock he had built to MacArthur High School in Irving, Texas to show his engineering teacher.

When another teacher saw what he had brought to school the authorities were called, with Ahmed suspected of building a hoax bomb.

Irving Police Department chief Larry Boyd said that the boy had been arrested for building a suspected hoax bomb but was later released.

President Obama heard about the story, and tweeted this this evening.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg was another to invite Ahmed to visit his company’s headquarters.

Ahmed’s father claims the arrest was made due to his son’s Muslim background.

Alia Salem of the Council on American-Islamic Relations agreed: “This wouldn’t even be a question if his name wasn’t Ahmed Mohamed. He is an excited kid who is very bright and wants to share it with his teachers.”

This is the clock in question.
