Belgium had enough shots on goal to win five games last night, but they just about got over the line against the USA in extra-time. The reason? Tim fu**ing Howard.
The Everton ‘keeper was in inspired form against Marc Wilmots’ side in Salvador last night, producing a string of top notch saves as the Belgians peppered the American goal with shots; 39 (39!) in total, 26 of which were on target.
Though he was eventually beaten on two occasions – he could do little to prevent the strikes from Kevin de Bruyne or Romelu Lukaku – he was a deserving winner of the man of the match award and fully merited the landslide of tributes that came his way on Twitter last night.
Belgian captain Vincent Kompany paid him the most fitting tribute of all…
Two words.. TIM HOWARD #Respect #BelUSA
