Off-duty Garda arrested after failing breath test following crash

An off-duty Garda was arrested on Saturday in Cork city after he failed a road side breath test for alcohol.

Gardaí attended the scene of a traffic collision involving a car and van at Silver Springs Hill, Cork city shortly after 5.30am on Saturday morning, 19 December.

The driver of the car, an off-duty member of An Garda Síochána, was arrested having failed a road side breath test for alcohol.

He was taken to Guranabraher Garda Station and later released without charge.

The driver of the van was treated for minor injuries at Cork University Hospital.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
