Off-duty US soldiers describe the moment they foiled a terrorist attack yesterday

Incredible story

Carl Kinsella

Very brave men.

The term ‘hero’ is thrown about very casually these days but the men who helped avert certain disaster on a Paris train yesterday are more than worthy of the word.

Alek Skarlatos, his fellow serviceman Spencer Stone and student Anthony Sadler saved the lives of countless people yesterday when they took down a would-be terrorist after they heard the sound of gunfire and breaking glass.

The 22-year old Skarlatos told Sky News, “I saw a guy entering the carriage with an AK and a handgun, at that point I ducked down and my friend Spencer, next to me, ducked down and I just looked over at Spencer and said: ‘Let’s go’”.

Sadler, a student at Sacramento State University, further described how the men tackled the culprit, wrestled his AK-47 from him and beat him with it until he was unconscious.

The men then took action to tie up the gunman, as well as taking the precaution to stop the bleeding from his neck – which could have been life-threatening.

Three people are understood to have been injured in the attack, but none critically. Doubtlessly, the list of casualty would have been far longer had those heroic passengers not been on bored.
