The news was announced on Sunday morning.

OJ Simpson has been freed from prison on parole after serving nine years for armed robbery.

The Associated Press announced the news on Sunday morning.

Simpson, acquitted of the murder of his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and waiter Ron Goldman in 1995, was convicted of the armed robbery of two sports memorabilia dealers in a Las Vegas hotel room in 2007.

The 70-year-old former American football star and actor claimed he had led five men into the situation to retrieve personal items and family mementoes that had been stolen from him following his acquittal on those murder charges twelve years earlier.

He had been sentenced to 33 years for the robbery but was granted parole in July. He had been serving his time in a Nevada prison in Lovelock.

Simpson will now be subject to supervision by the state Division of Parole and Probation until September 2022.

According to the Associated Press, Simpson told the parole board that he wanted to live in the state of Florida. However, the Florida Department of Corrections revealed that officials had not yet received a transfer request or required documents.
