Olympic silver-medallist John Joe Nevin is in hospital with a broken leg after he was attacked in Mullingar on Saturday morning.
The incident took place shortly after 11am in the Ardleigh area.
Gardaí have confirmed that no arrests have currently been made, but they are investigating the incident.
The 24-year-old recently turned professional and won his opening fight as a pro in Boston last month.
