Homenews

They mightn't be pretty but we've grown to love them.

In somewhat shocking news to Dubliners, airplane passengers and show off seagulls, it has emerged this morning that the famous Poolbeg chimneys may be about to disappear from the capital's skyline. In a report in the Irish Times today, the ESB, who own the Poolbeg site, are quoted as saying it may not 'be possible at all' to leave them standing after the end of the year. ESB chief executive Pat O’Doherty has said that the work required to keep the twin 680ft high towers erect may not be worth the costs involved. Out of action since 2010, a report on the site's future would be received by Minster Leo Varadkar by the end of the year. While we are sure there are some folk out there who think they are an eyesore, they have become such a feature of the city skyline that we hope something can be done to save them.
